What is a Parlay Bet and Why Are They So Popular?
Parlay bets account for roughly 40% of all sports betting handle, making them a significant part of the sports betting landscape. Some sports may be pulling 70% of the action from parlays, based on the results of individual sportsbooks.
Parlays are best described as multiple bets combined into one. Each selection in the parlay is called a leg, and the number of such selections will depend on the sportsbook you are using. In order to win this type of bet, you will have to win every individual leg before you can secure the total payout from the parlay itself.
Polymarket and Kalshi are launching a parlay bet option, even though they technically do not call it that. Polymarket calls parlay-adjacent trading options Combinatoric AthleticOutcome Contracts, and Kalshi uses the Combo branding. You need a minimum of two selections to form a parlay bet at most sportsbooks. The maximum number of legs varies by sportsbook or platform. Kalshi’s combos may allow 30 or more legs, while most sportsbooks tend to cap parlays at 10 or 15 legs.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
