Poker Odds Calculator (Equity)

Enter the hands and, if you like, the flop, turn or river. The calculator shows each player's chance to win, tie and total equity. Everything runs in your browser.

Hands

A hand such as AsKh, or a range: QQ+, KK-TT, AKs, ATs+, A5s-A2s, AKo, AK, or 15% for the top 15% of hands. Separate items with commas. Leave a seat empty for a random hand.

0, 3, 4 or 5 cards, for example Jh Th 2c.

Equity

Calculating…

Equity counts a tie as a share of the pot. In a range every legal combination is equally likely. Top X% ranks hands by their equity against a random hand, so it is an approximation of a typical range.

How equity is calculated

Equity is the share of the pot a hand wins on average if all remaining board cards are dealt and nobody folds. A win counts as 1, a tie with k players counts as 1 ÷ k. The calculator compares the best five-card hand of every player on every board it considers.

When the number of possible boards is small, for example from the flop onward against known hands, the calculator checks every board and the result is exact. Before the flop or against a random hand there are too many combinations, so it deals many random boards and gives an estimate with a margin of error that shrinks as the number of boards grows.

Equity is not the same as the pot odds you need. To decide on a call, compare your equity with the equity the price demands: the pot odds calculator shows that number.

Worked example

A♥ K♥ against Q♣ Q♦ on a flop of J♥ T♥ 2♣. AKs has the nut flush draw, a gutshot to Broadway and overcards. Out of 990 possible turn and river pairs it wins 56.1% of the time against the pair of queens, which is a small favourite.

Before the flop, A♠ A♥ against K♦ K♣ wins about 81% of the time and against a random hand about 85%. Even the best starting hand loses once in six or seven times.

Questions and answers

What is equity in poker?

Your share of the pot on average if the hand is played to the end without folds. It is your chance to win plus a share of the ties.

How accurate is the calculator?

From the flop onward against specific hands it checks every board, so the result is exact. Otherwise it is a simulation of about 150,000 random boards, accurate to roughly a third of a percentage point.

Can I enter a range such as top 10% of hands?

Yes. Type something like QQ+, AKs, A5s-A2s or 10% in a player's field. On every simulated board the calculator deals a random legal combination from the range, and the table shows how many combinations the range has.

How do I use equity to decide?

Compare it with the equity the bet demands. If you have to call $50 into a pot of $100, you need 25% (see the pot odds calculator). If your equity is higher, calling is profitable in the long run.
