Former Texas Tech Wide Receiver Roy Alexander Sues NCAA Over Betting Suspension

Roy Alexander, a former Texas Tech wide receiver, has sued the NCAA over a six-game suspension for betting on sports. Alexander filed the suit on Aug. 19 in Bexar County Texas District Court. The former Red Raider played three games for Tech last season before transferring to Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Alexander also previously played for Albany from 2021 to 2024.

Alexander made the bets using a mobile app from January 2023 to April 2025 while he was at Albany and Incarnate Word. The lawsuit alleges that Texas Tech informed the NCAA about his betting activity after he left the Lubbock, Texas, university. The NCAA remains steadfast in prohibiting college athletes from wagering in an effort to preserve game integrity.

Alexander argues that none of the bets were on his teams and didn’t impact the integrity of those games. “While Roy has taken accountability for his actions, ceasing to stop wagering on his own, the [NCAA] dealt him a six-game suspension, which is wholly unreasonable in light of the conduct,” the lawsuit says.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
