Poker Coach John Anghalt Shares Tips on Managing Tilt
John Anghalt, a poker coach and the author of the Leak Buster app, which helps players identify and fix issues in their game, has shared several practical tips on managing tilt, a common issue among poker players.
Tilt is an inevitable part of poker that affects everyone's decisions. John Anghalt suggests setting a timer for a specific duration before starting a poker session to help manage tilt. For example, set a timer for 30 minutes and stop playing regardless of whether you are in profit or loss. Repeat this process one to two times a week to train your mind that exiting the game when necessary is normal.
John Anghalt also suggests recording your psychological state during a poker session to identify patterns of tilt. Before the game, take a pen and paper or open a text editor. Write down the date and time of the session start. Every 10-15 minutes, record your psychological state on a scale from 1 to 10. At the end of the sessions, build graphs of your state and try to find patterns when it deteriorates. Additionally, John Anghalt suggests using additional software like Tilt Breaker to automatically end a session after a set time or maximum loss.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
