Tom Marchese's Three-High Bluff Leaves Phil Hellmuth Seething
In a thrilling moment at the 2017 Poker Masters, Tom Marchese managed to bluff Phil Hellmuth, leaving the Poker Brat visibly annoyed. The hand occurred during Event #2, $50,000 No-Limit Hold’em. Phil Hellmuth was holding Qh-Js, Fedor Holz had 7d and Tom Marchese had 3-2 in clubs.
The flop of 6c-Kd-Jc gave Hellmuth middle pair, while Marchese had a flush draw with two streets yet to come. Checks all the way around kept the pot at 285,000. The 4d on the turn gave Marchese a gutshot in addition to his flush draw, prompting a 165,000 bet from the New Jersey native. Holz folded his hand, followed by a call from Hellmuth, increasing the pot to 615,000. The river produced the 8h, missing the draws of Marchese, but not missing his ability to put one over on the Poker Brat. He bet 425,000 on the river, and Phil Hellmuth folded.
Hellmuth's frustration was evident as he commented, “I wish I can play with you guys everyday,” clearly annoyed that he fell for the bluff. Fedor Holz replied, “We wish the same,” adding to the tension at the table.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
