The Rise of Timex: A Young Poker Pro's Journey

Mike's journey into the world of poker began at a young age. He first learned about Texas Hold'em at a national math camp in the end of 10th grade. This early exposure sparked his interest in the game, and he quickly started to develop his skills.

Mike's first online poker experience was playing 250 hands of 0.5/1 limit hold'em on Poker Source Online. He started playing poker on Ultimate Bet at the 1c/2c limit. Mike's first significant online poker win was turning $100 into $600 on Pacific Poker. This win gave him the confidence to continue playing and improving his skills.

Mike learned about bonus hunting and grew his bankroll to 5k by April. He played the Bad Beat Jackpot 2/4 tables on Party Poker. Mike's bankroll grew to 10k after learning about online casino bonuses. He was invited to play in a $250 tournament at Empire Poker by Steve Pol-Ambros and Pacmann. Mike played his first significant tournament, a $250 rebuy with a 50% overlay, at Empire Poker. Mike's first significant tournament win was a 4th place finish in a $250 tournament, earning him $16k.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
