Poker Expert: Pros Bluff Less Than You Think
Poker strategy expert Alexander Fitzgerald has shared insights on common misconceptions about professional poker players' bluffing strategies. Fitzgerald advises that there is no need to develop a great four-bet bluff strategy 98% of the time because most opponents do not three-bet bluff enough. He mentions that most people choose to be passive preflop and do not want to three-bet a decent hand. The average person three-bets only around 6% to 7% of their hands.
Fitzgerald states that if you are out of position, open a slightly tighter range to deal with a three-bet range. He also points out that almost no one four-bet bluffs, and people might know they should do it occasionally, but they would rather call and take a flop. He notes that the vast majority of poker players do not beat the rake, and of those who do, most do not make a significant amount of money.
Fitzgerald advises that amateurs often believe the entire game is about bluffing, but in many games, the skill edge is value betting. He is a professional poker player and bestselling author who lives in Denver, Colorado.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
