Poker Pro Turned Restaurateur Shares Pandemic Struggles
Allen Bari, a former poker player, won a $5,000 no-limit hold'em tournament in 2011, earning $874,116. His victory included defeating future high roller Sean LeFort and Russian bracelet winner Mikhail Lakhitov.
In 2014, Bari transitioned from poker to the restaurant business, opening Hudson Table in Hoboken, New Jersey. He opened a second location in Philadelphia on February 1, 2020.
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bari faced significant challenges. He expressed frustration with government support programs, stating that they were ineffective and impractical for small businesses. Bari shifted his business model to selling food kits, allowing him to keep his employees and adapt to the new circumstances. He worked tirelessly, often sleeping only five hours a night, to ensure his business survived.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
