Poker Strategy: Choosing the Best Bet Size on the Flop Against Recreational Players

In a recent series of videos, poker experts Gonzalo199 and MarkNyet provided valuable insights into choosing the best bet size on the flop against recreational players. Gonzalo199 reviewed hands to teach how to decide when to use large or small bet sizes.

MarkNyet gave a theoretical class for Doctorado students on selecting the best bet size by value on the flop against recreational players. He suggested simplifying the strategy to two bet sizes on the flop: a small size of 1bb and a large pot bet. The factors determining the bet size include board coordination and texture, hand vulnerability, SPR, range estimation, and opponent type.

Following the theoretical class, xRekix led the practical part, showing examples of how to decide between bet sizes. Gonzalo199 concluded the video series with a final practical class reviewing hands and analyzing new examples.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
