Phil Galfond's New Course: Unveiling the Secrets of Poker Strategy and EV
Phil Galfond has released a new course titled This Is PLO, with the first video now available to the public. The course focuses on the strategy of Omaha poker, particularly heads-up play, but many of the concepts discussed are applicable to other formats of Omaha and even to all types of poker.
In his course, Galfond explains that understanding the optimal strategy is crucial, but he believes that beyond a certain point, further refinements do not yield significant returns. He emphasizes the importance of logical thinking and adapting to unique situations during gameplay. Galfond discusses how players should be able to logically analyze situations that they have not encountered before and make decisions based on theoretical understanding.
Galfond also mentions Daniel Kahneman's book Thinking, Fast and Slow, which discusses two systems of thinking: System 1, which is fast and intuitive, and System 2, which is slow and deliberate. He explains how these systems apply to poker, particularly in decision-making processes during gameplay. By the end of the course, Galfond aims to help players transition many tasks from System 2 to System 1, allowing for more automatic and intuitive decision-making.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
