New York Sports Betting: Big Wins and Major Moves

New York legalized gambling in 2019, but online betting was only activated on 8th January 2022. This move has allowed residents to bet at both land-based and online casinos in New York. Within the first month of activating online gambling, New York sportsbooks made an estimated $2 billion. Of this amount, $70 million goes to taxes which is an awesome return for the local government.

Several sportsbooks are offering various promotions to attract new players. Ceasars Sportsbook, owned by Ceasars Entertainment, offers new players a $1,000 bonus with the EMPIRECZR promo code. However, this promotion is not eligible to old players and those that already have a William Hill account. Additionally, first-time players receive a $100 match on their initial deposit.

BetMGM, launched in January 2022, offers a 20% Parlay Boost Reward with the pro code BetMGM NY. Draft Kings Sportsbook offers a 20% match on the first deposit. FanDuel, known for Daily Fantasy Sports, offers new users a risk-free bet of up to $1,000. This amount is refundable in the form of game credits, rather than cash.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
