MarkNyet's Theory: Understanding Value Bluffs in Poker

MarkNyet, a renowned poker professional, has initiated a new series for the students of Universidad del Spin Project. This series delves into the crucial relationship between value bets and bluffs, a fundamental aspect of poker strategy.

MarkNyet emphasizes that understanding the value-bluff relationship is essential for constructing a balanced game in each street of poker. This balance ensures that players can effectively navigate through the flop, turn, and river phases.

In the flop, the number of bluff combos is higher. This is because there is a possibility that projects can be completed in the turn or river, turning a bluff into a strong hand. At the turn, the relationship between value bets and bluffs equalizes. This is due to the opponents' range having passed a filter, making their remaining hands stronger. In the river, the proportion of hands that can be bluffed depends on the bet size used, as this affects the Pot Odds Estimation (PME) for the opponent.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
