Magnus Carlsen Becomes Unibet Ambassador in Groundbreaking Deal

Magnus Carlsen, the world champion in chess, has signed a two-year contract with Unibet, becoming their new ambassador. This partnership marks a significant milestone as Carlsen is the first absolute champion in three chess categories: classical, rapid, and blitz.

Beyond his chess prowess, Magnus Carlsen is known for his love of basketball and football. He is a devoted fan of Real Madrid and has even participated in symbolic kick-offs for the team. His interests extend to poker, which he has been playing for 10 years, and fantasy football, where his team has been consistently rising in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) rankings.

Carlsen's initiative #MoveForEquality, aimed at drawing attention to issues of racial discrimination, faced backlash from the chess community. Despite this, Unibet has been involved in chess for several years, sponsoring world championships and offering betting on games. However, Carlsen cannot promote Unibet in Norway due to the country's ban on foreign betting companies. Mohammed Al-Modjayhi, a member of the FIDE Board, has also opposed the Unibet logo on federation events. Ilya Gorodetsky believes that this partnership will benefit both the chess and poker worlds.
