Louise Brunson, Wife of Poker Legend Doyle Brunson, Passes Away at 89
Louise Brunson, the wife of the late poker legend Doyle Brunson, has passed away at the age of 89. She passed away five months after her husband Doyle Brunson. Louise Brunson was known to have had health issues in her later years and was cared for by Doyle up until his passing in May 2023.
Doyle Brunson and Louise Brunson were married for 62 years after meeting in 1959 and had three children: Todd, Pamela, and Doyla. Louise Brunson spoke about the challenges of being married to a professional gambler in an interview with PokerNews in 2018. She mentioned that the lifestyle of today’s top poker players wasn’t yet a thing in the 1960s. “It was terrible, just terrible. They would come after them with guns and everything else. And I couldn’t wait just to get a new car because in those times it was tough. It was a lot different back then.”
Louise Brunson mentioned that Doyle Brunson was diagnosed with what was thought to be terminal cancer while she was pregnant. She also spoke about the loss of their daughter Doyla at the age of 18. “We went through a lot in our lifetime. But what doesn’t kill you, keeps you together and closer. I knew that I loved him, and I knew that he loved me. And if we had a disagreement, it would just be minor. But I usually let him have his way.”

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
