Gen Zers Draining Investment Funds for Sports Betting
Gen Zers are taking more out of their investment funds to support their sports betting habits. Gen Zers are far more likely than any other demographic to consider sports betting as part of their financial strategy. According to a survey by Betterment, a wealth-management platform, 26% of Gen Zers said they consider sports betting a part of their long-term financial strategy.
This trend is concerning to financial experts, who note that sports betting is a zero-sum game with uncertain outcomes and fees that contribute to a negative net outcome for most participants. In contrast, the stock market is generally seen as a safe investment path where one's net worth continuously accumulates.
The survey found that 52% of Gen Zers reported having taken money out of their investment funds to support their sports betting habit. This behavior is driven by a sense of economic nihilism, with Gen Zers being very pessimistic about the economy and becoming more irresponsible with their money.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
