Dusty Schmidt Shares Two Advanced Poker Bluffing Techniques
Poker player Dusty Schmidt, known for his column in Card Player, has shared two advanced techniques for bluffing in No-Limit Hold'em. These techniques, 'The Decisive Blow' and 'Push, Since There's Nothing There', are designed to help players maximize their bluffs and minimize risk.
The Decisive Blow
The first technique, 'The Decisive Blow', involves two bets on the turn and river. Schmidt explains that this technique is most effective when the board is relatively dry, meaning there are no obvious draws. The technique begins with a check-raise on the turn, followed by an overbet push on the river. This puts the opponent in a difficult position, as they are likely to fold unless they have a strong hand. However, if the opponent does have a strong hand, they are unlikely to call the overbet push on the river.
Push, Since There's Nothing There
The second technique, 'Push, Since There's Nothing There', requires a completely dry flop. If the opponent makes a 3-bet on the flop, it indicates that they likely have nothing. Schmidt suggests pushing all-in at this point, as the opponent is unlikely to call with a weak hand. This technique can be very effective, but it requires careful reading of the opponent's tendencies and the board texture.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
