Doyle Brunson Remembers Chip Reese: The Legendary Poker Player

Doyle Brunson first heard of Chip Reese in the summer of 1973, when Reese and his partner Danny Robinson were playing in a $10/$20 stud game at Stardust. Brunson initially thought Reese was just another lucky newcomer, but soon realized he was a formidable player. Reese and Robinson increased their bankroll to $100,000 after a significant win in a $400/$800 game, showcasing their exceptional skills.

Reese's Character and Generosity

One of the most memorable instances of Reese's character was during a disputed golf match. After a disagreement, the main gangster involved claimed the match was over and refused to pay the $90,000 winnings. Reese, however, paid Brunson the full amount from his own funds, demonstrating his bravery and integrity. This act of generosity was not uncommon for Reese, who was known for his kindness and willingness to help others.

Reese's life was not without challenges. He faced threats from gangsters and even had a contract out on his life. Despite these dangers, Reese remained a respected figure in the poker community, known for his athleticism, friendliness, and intelligence. His legacy as a legendary poker player and a generous individual continues to inspire many.
