Poker Pro Dmitry Completes 20,000 Tournament Marathon: Insights and Challenges
Poker player Dmitry recently completed a monumental task: a marathon of 20,000 tournaments. His primary motivation was financial—he felt limited by his current earnings of around $10,000 per month and sought to increase his income. Dmitry aimed to determine his limits and capabilities by pushing himself beyond 100% effort in the marathon.
Dmitry's marathon not only tested his endurance but also inspired a new wave of marathons and motivated authors in the blogs he reads. His extensive preparation and regular analysis have made many of his in-game decisions obvious and straightforward. He spends at least an hour a day on game analysis, often more, focusing on GTO (Game Theory Optimal) strategies.
Dmitry believes that his approach to poker is similar to chess, where preflop and flop decisions are like memorized openings, and turn and river decisions are more creative. He estimates his memory to be around 7 out of 10 on a scale where 0 is Korsakoff's syndrome and 10 is eidetic memory. Towards the end of the marathon, Dmitry felt mentally exhausted and experienced a loss of concentration, making the final week particularly challenging.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
