Dennis Strebkov on the Evolution of Limit Mixed Poker Games Over a Decade
Dennis Strebkov, a seasoned poker player, began his poker journey in late 2008 and quickly delved into limit cash and tournaments by the spring of 2009. He recalls playing many HORSE SNGs and having a significant distance in them. Strebkov noted that the field was very weak, especially in razz cash games, where players would often max bet with poor hands. This allowed him to capitalize by playing tightly against these weaker opponents.
Over the years, Strebkov has observed significant changes in limit mixed poker games. One of the most notable shifts is in limit hold'em, where players now understand preflop and postflop strategies better. This evolution is evident in how players handle their hands and the increased aggression in their play.
Strebkov also mentioned that players like blanconegro and Conor Drinan have changed their playing styles significantly. For instance, Conor Drinan, who was known for his aggressive style, now plays more conservatively, often slow-playing strong hands to maximize his winnings. This shift in strategy highlights the adaptive nature of poker players as they evolve with the game.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
