Betfred Ends Super League Sponsorship Due to Tax Pressure
Betfred has officially ended its support for the Super League after nine years. The company confirmed this week that it will no longer provide financial aid to the organization, marking the end of a sponsorship that began in 2017.
Betfred cited mounting tax pressure in the United Kingdom as the reason for ending its support. The remote gaming duty in the UK increased to 40% from 21% in April 2026, and a general betting duty of 25% will be introduced in 2027. These regulatory changes have forced many companies to review their spending and cost-trimming exercises.
Betfred owner Fred Done said the decision to end support was made with a 'heavy heart.' Rugby Football League interim CEO Rhodri Jones expressed gratitude to Fred Done and Betfred for their support over the years.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
