Whale in poker
Definition
A rich recreational player who plays for very high stakes and loses large sums.
Whales are valuable to the game: their losses fund much of the profits of winning players and the prizes in high-stakes cash games. They are usually loose and make large bets.
The term is used mainly in high-stakes and live games.
