WSOPE 2015: Greek Poker Triumphs and Notable Wins
The World Series of Poker Europe 2015 (WSOPE) attracted many stars, including American players. Mike McDonald questioned why many North American players, who rarely attend EPT, chose to come to WSOPE. Shaun Deeb explained that some players wanted to compete for Player of the Year, while others wanted to play mixed games.
The first tournament of the series, a 6-max NLHE for €2,200, had 197 participants. Makarios Avramidis, a Greek amateur, won the first tournament and became the first Greek to win a WSOP bracelet. The Oktoberfest tournament with a €550 buy-in attracted 2,144 registrations and was the most attended tournament in WSOPE history. Dietrich Fast won the Oktoberfest tournament and received €157,749.
The PLO tournament for €3,250 had 161 participants and was one of the least popular tournaments of the series. Richard Griek won the PLO tournament, defeating notable players like Mike Li and Roberto Romanello. The Monster Stack tournament for €1,650 had 580 participants and was won by Ryan Hefter. Pavlos Xanthopoulos won the NLHE tournament for €3,250, securing his second WSOP bracelet.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
