WSOP Main Event Day 2d: Dramatic Hands and Notable Players

Day 2d of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event 2026 was marked by significant action and the presence of notable players. A total of 820 players entered the late registration, bringing the total number of participants to 9,208. This number, while lower than the previous year, is still impressive. The minimum cash prize is set at $15,000, with $1,000,000 for the ninth place and a staggering $10,000,000 for the first place.

At the end of the day, 2,034 players remained, and it was announced that the ABC and D streams would merge for the first time the following day. One of the highlights of the day was a dramatic hand between Andreas Stashevski and Ervan Boyadjian. With a pot of 35,000 chips and blinds at 400/800, Stashevski went all-in from the small blind. Boyadjian, with a stack of approximately 30,000 chips, took a long time to decide, eventually showing a tuz-hai. Stashevski revealed his bluff, but his kicker was higher, leading to Boyadjian's elimination.

Another notable moment involved Barak Wisbrod and Phil Hellmuth III. Wisbrod, with a stack of about 40,000 chips, was eliminated by Hellmuth after a series of aggressive bets. Hellmuth showed his tuzes and flopped another, sending Wisbrod to the cash games. Martin Kabrhel and Jessica Richards engaged in a lively exchange during a hand. Richards, known for her content creation, advanced to the third day with a stack of 111,500. Shon Dib and Jason Mercie played a notable hand against David Costabile, known for his role as Gale in Breaking Bad. Costabile, with a short stack, showed a tuz-korol and won the hand. Vin Nguyen, known for his aggressive play, had a significant hand against an opponent who ultimately folded, showcasing his strategic prowess.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
