WSOP 2022: High Roller Tournament Kicks Off with Surprises and Drama
The WSOP 2022 high roller tournament kicked off with a $100,000 entry fee, with $25,000 allocated for bounties. The event featured a mix of billionaires, European high rollers, and offline professionals. Nikita Bodiakovsky was the only Russian participant, but he was eliminated after calling an all-in with K5o against David Peters' T4o.
Phil Hellmuth missed the event due to diarrhea after a weekend in Mexico. He tweeted, 'I have diarrhea after a weekend in Mexico. I honestly tried, but my stomach hurts very much.' David Peters, however, embraced the positivity and became the chip leader after eliminating Justin Young, who had been the initial chip leader.
Justin Young, who won the WCOOP 13 years ago under the nickname robert07, ended the day as the chip leader after eliminating Alex Foxen in a big all-in. Matthew Steinberg was the only player to pay $100,000 for 15 big blinds and lasted relatively long. Bill Klein did not let David Peters bluff him out of the game. Daniel Negreanu was eliminated after losing to Chance Cornut, who had a flush draw on the turn and a flush on the river. Nick Petrangelo became the bubble boy, losing to Phil Ivy who had a straight on the river. Phil Ivy was eliminated after losing to David Peters, who had a pair of sevens and only two outs on the flop.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
