Fears of Betting Irregularities Emerge After Folarin Bolagun's Red Card is Overturned
Fears of betting irregularities have emerged after Folarin Bolagun's red card was overturned, allowing him to play against Belgium. The unprecedented move of a red card penalty being lifted after a game was over was seen as further evidence of the sleazy backroom cronism that happens at FIFA behind closed doors, and one that has materialized in full view.
The Group of Copenhagen has raised fears that there may have been at least several instances of severe match manipulation, and Balogun may be one of those. Notably, Polymarket only opened a market on the potential of having Folarin Bolagun reinstated and his red card expunged. Out of 14 red cards at that point in the tournament, Polymarket had only ventured to offer this type of market on the US player only.
FIFA's Integrity Task Force has announced that there have been no irregularities surrounding the event, and that no issues were identified with any specific plays relevant to existing betting markets.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
