Anti-Gambling Group Calls for US State Lotteries to Close During Pandemic
The United States is the global leader in the rate of coronavirus spread. Anti-gambling organization Stop Predatory Gambling sent 45 letters to high-ranking officials in various states, calling for a halt to state lotteries during special social security payments. Stop Predatory Gambling's director Les Bernal expressed concern that people might spend their social payments on lottery tickets instead of essentials.
The American national lottery sold $76 billion worth of tickets in 2018, significantly contributing to state revenues. The director of the Maryland Gaming Control Agency, Gordon Medenica, stated that tax revenues from state lotteries primarily fund public schools and other essential services.
Despite the concerns, the organization has not received responses from all states. Five states did not receive letters because they do not have state lotteries: Nevada, Hawaii, Alaska, Alabama, and Utah.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
