Undercover Poker Dealer: My Journey in New York's Underground Poker Scene

The author started playing poker in a club called Fox's and improved his skills significantly over a year. The author wanted to work as a dealer in the 'Pikes' club and saw an opportunity when he noticed that some dealers would rather play than work. The author was given a chance to prove himself as a dealer during a tournament and was eventually hired. The author's friend Andy was hired to play poker at the 'Pikes' club during the day.

The author befriended a dealer named Chris, who was around 24 years old and worked at the 'Pikes' club. Chris had been working at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas for the past three summers.

Chris shared his experiences working at the WSOP, mentioning the variety of people he met and the valuable experience he gained. The author aspires to follow in Chris's footsteps and work at the WSOP in the future.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
