UKGC Slaps Genesis Global with £3.8M Fine for Money Laundering and Social Responsibility Failures
The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has imposed a £3.8 million fine on Genesis Global for multiple money laundering and social responsibility violations. This penalty comes after a two-year investigation into the company's practices. The UKGC also issued a warning to the gaming sector, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining the highest level of client safety.
Genesis Global was banned from operating in the UK in July 2020 due to significant social responsibility and money laundering breaches. The suspension was lifted three months later after the company made significant compliance improvements. However, the UKGC's recent report indicates that Genesis Global continues to engage in problematic behaviors.
The UKGC identified three money-laundering breaches. In one instance, a client was allowed to deposit over $1.7 million but lost approximately $800,000. The UKGC concluded that the client's level of gambling was not supported by the documented deposits and withdrawals. In another case, Genesis Global estimated a client's annual earnings as a London business director to be £111,000, despite wide variations in directorship pay. The company only inquired about the source of the funds after the client had lost £209,000.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
