Sky Betting and Gaming Fined £1.17M for Sending Promos to Self-Excluded Customers
Sky Betting and Gaming, operated by Bonne Terre Limited, has been fined £1.17 million by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) for sending promotional emails to customers who had self-excluded. The emails, sent during the UK's Safer Gambling Week, offered free casino spins from the Sky Vegas brand, which is owned by Flutter.
The UKGC noted that 41,395 users who had self-excluded and opted out of receiving promotional emails received the offer. The commission's CEO, Andrew Rhodes, encouraged all operators to learn from Sky Betting and Gaming's mistakes. Conor Grant, CEO of Flutter UK and Ireland, expressed regret for the incident and stated that the company had taken steps to ensure it does not happen again.
This fine is part of a larger trend of significant penalties imposed by the UKGC on major gambling companies for failing to safeguard susceptible clients. Since the beginning of the year, the UKGC has fined other companies a total of £16.37 million. Notable fines include £9.4 million to 888 UK Limited for money laundering and social responsibility failures, £2 million to BetVictor, and £3.8 million to Genesis Global.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
