The Evolution of Sit and Go Tournaments: Key Players and Their Stories

The history of Sit and Go (SNG) tournaments is marked by significant changes and notable players. In 2007, SharkScope did not have the variety of filters it has today, so all SNG tournaments except HU were listed together without separation by speed or number of players at the table.

Mark 'infamouspade' Marino was a prominent figure in the SNG scene. He played both SNG and MTT, but significantly reduced his online activity after 2007 and stopped entirely after 'Black Friday'.

Greg 'LuckboxFromHell/River Prayer' Biyard was one of the strongest SNG players of his time. He continues to be active on the 2+2 forum under the nickname Gramps. Jared 'jhub3000' Hubbard regularly updated his blog on his website until August 2012, after which he focused more on Twitter.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
