Scott Nguyen: 'Life is Too Short, Baby' – The Legendary Poker Player's Journey

Scott Nguyen, a name synonymous with poker greatness, has a story that is as compelling as it is tragic. His journey in the world of poker is marked by both extraordinary highs and devastating lows. Nguyen began calling everyone 'baby' in 1996 because he couldn't remember names during tournaments.

One of the most pivotal moments in Nguyen's career was his victory at the WSOP Main Event in 1998. This win, however, was overshadowed by a personal tragedy. Scott Nguyen's brother died in a car accident the day after his WSOP win in 1998. The joy of his victory was abruptly replaced by profound grief, a loss that he carries to this day.

This emotional turmoil led Nguyen to reevaluate his approach to the game. He stopped playing cash games because he felt guilty about winning against friends. 'I can play with them again to make them feel good, but if it hurts them, it hurts me,' Nguyen reflected. This decision was driven by his deep sense of gratitude and the pain of taking friends' money. 'When people grow up, they split into two types: those who don't remember the past and those who never forget where they came from. I am the second type,' he said.
