Ryan Depaulo Criticizes Doug Polk's High Rake Tournament at The Lodge
Ryan Depaulo has criticized Doug Polk for the high rake in a monthly $500 +$100 tournament at The Lodge poker room. Depaulo took to Twitter to express his disapproval, reminding followers of his past criticisms of Daniel Negreanu's stance on rake. Doug Polk defended the high rake by stating that the tournament structure was planned before he joined The Lodge and that the cash games at The Lodge are the cheapest in the country.
The monthly tournament at The Lodge has been popular, covering a $500k guarantee for three consecutive months. The tournament has proven to be a hit, with a 60-table room filling up quickly and no more space for additional players. Despite the high rake, the tournament offers good value, and The Lodge pays its dealers well.
Doug Polk has also mentioned that running a business is challenging, and he is wondering if the criticism will ever stop. He recently had a successful run at The Lodge, stacking players left and right, but he is still sitting $190k in the hole overall.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
