Rui Cao Wins Triton Madrid Short Deck Tournament for €497,000
Rui Cao, known for his high stakes cash game skills, proved his tournament prowess by winning the Triton Madrid Short Deck tournament, earning €497,000. This victory marks his second Triton Poker Short Deck title. The tournament, held at Casino Gran Via in Madrid, featured a €1.7 million prize pool and attracted 68 entries, with 36 unique players.
The event was part of the Triton SHR series, which skipped event 4 due to cultural superstitions around the number 4 in Chinese culture. The €25k buy-in Short Deck ante-only tournament saw intense competition, with notable players like Chris Brewer, Tom Dwan, and Jason Koon participating.
Chris Brewer, who had won event 3, was eliminated in 10th place after aggressive plays. Tom Dwan, who had given up his chance to battle Phil Hellmuth in the High Stakes Duel, was eliminated in 3rd place, earning €175,100. Richard Yong finished in second place, earning €357,000, while Kenneth Kee took third place, earning €232,000.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
