Rob Yong and Poker Pros Debate the Impact of GTO Solvers
Rob Yong, a prominent figure in the poker world, has recently expressed his concerns about the increasing use of Game Theory Optimal (GTO) solvers in poker. In a tweet, Yong stated that he believes GTO solvers are the biggest threat to both online and live poker. He conducted a poll where 51% of 4,963 participants agreed with his stance.
Dan Shack, a professional poker player, supported Yong's views, stating that the use of solvers could deter recreational players from participating in high roller tournaments. Shack mentioned that he would no longer participate in such tournaments due to the prevalence of solvers.
However, not all professionals share Yong's concerns. Joe Ingram, another poker player, believes that solvers themselves do not pose a threat to poker. He stated that solvers are a tool for finding optimal strategies against the strongest players and that they help the best players reach their full potential. Ingram also mentioned that the real threats are rake, bots, and programs based on solvers.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
