Razz Poker Strategies: Mastering the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Streets

Razz poker strategies become crucial as the game progresses to the fifth, sixth, and seventh streets. Starting from the fifth street, the bets become twice as large as on the earlier streets. The chances of the bank are usually similar to those on the 3rd and 4th streets, but you get twice as much value if you are ahead in equity.

A hand like (4x 6x) 3x 2x Kx is much stronger, not only because of the twice better equity. The potential outs can realize on the sixth or seventh street, but you need to consider them in advance. If no one has collected an eight, the best four-card draw is usually ahead, otherwise the best ready hand is ahead.

On the sixth street, the best ready hand is almost always ahead, except if it is worse than Jx 8x. If you see that the opponent folds a lot on the river, start adding bluffs to your range. However, be cautious on low limits as opponents tend to call optimistically.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
