Poker's Worst Folds: Users Vote on the Most Infamous Folds in History

Poker enthusiasts on the 2+2 forum debated the worst folds in poker history, highlighting some of the most infamous moments. The discussion was sparked by a hand played between John Juanda and Sergey Lebedev in 2019. On the river, Sergey bet 200,000 into a pot of 1,075,000, and John folded a four of sixes. However, this fold was considered less impressive because it occurred in a short deck tournament.

Maria Ho's fold of a set on the flop during the fourth day of the WSOPE main event in Rózvadov was also a topic of debate. The hand involved notable players like Niall Farrell, Rainer Kempe, and Kirsten Bicknell. Opinions were divided on whether this fold was one of the worst.

Greg Raymer shared a personal anecdote about a hand where an opponent folded KK preflop against him in the 2009 WSOP Main Event. Li Childs' fold of a pair of queens against Jerry Yang in the 2007 WSOP Main Event final table was also mentioned. Mikhail Smirnov's fold of a four of aces against John Morgan in a $1 million tournament was another notable moment. Phil Hellmuth's fold of QQ preflop against an open-raise with a 15BB stack in an episode of Poker After Dark was also discussed. Tobias Reinkemeier's fold against Scott Seiver on the bubble of the One Drop 2014 tournament was highlighted, as was Phil Hellmuth's bluff against Jangleman in a heads-up showdown on King of the Hill in 2017.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
