Poker Pros Retire While Ahead: Heinecker, Dang Brothers, and Vos
Several high-stakes poker players decided to retire while they were ahead, ensuring their financial success and moving on to new ventures. Niklas Heinecker, born in Hamburg in 1984, became one of the world's top players in no-limit hold'em by the late 2000s.
Heinecker won over $2 million on PokerStars from February 2011 to January 2014, playing at limits of $50/$100 and higher. He was particularly successful in 2013, winning $2.16 million from Paul 'MalACEsia' Fu. Heinecker's earnings from 2012 to 2014 exceeded $14.5 million, including a significant win of $5.4 million playing $2k/$4k 2-7 triple draw from August 2013 to November 2014.
Heinecker's most notable achievement was winning the GuangDong Asia Millions tournament in June 2013, taking home $4,456,885. This victory marked a high point in his career, leading him to retire shortly after.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
