Poker Player Wins $50,000 in Ontario: 'Better than Working at McDonald's'
In a recent post, a poker player detailed his journey of winning $50,000 in online poker over 10 months in Ontario, Canada. The player, known as sicklucker, played 12-20 tables of NL25-NL100, with an average limit of NL50. The unique conditions in Ontario, including high rakeback and favorable leaderboards, contributed to his success.
The player had a rakeback of 80-120%, averaging around 100%. This, combined with daily leaderboard winnings, allowed him to earn around $40-45 per hour or $5,000 per month. He mentioned that he would prefer working at McDonald's rather than playing without rakeback, highlighting the lucrative nature of his poker venture.
Despite the favorable conditions, the player acknowledged that his results were not exceptional. He had a win rate of 6.7bb/100 for NL100, 4.7bb/100 for NL50, and 8.4bb/100 for NL25. He also noted that he played with a short stack, which made it easier to manage multiple tables but affected the quality of his game.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
