Poker Pros Reveal: How Easy It Was to Make Millions in the Early 2000s

A Reddit user wondered how easy it would be to become rich if they could go back to the year 2000 with a $10,000 bankroll. One user mentioned that they won $10,000 on PartyPoker in their early 20s and found it surprisingly easy. ZBTHorton, a legendary online grinder and moderator of 2+2, stated that if he were sent back to 2000 with a $50,000 bankroll, he would guarantee winning huge amounts of money.

Another user mentioned that they could easily open four 6-max tables on FullTilt and start printing money due to the abundance of weak players. The composition of players in the early 2000s was significantly weaker, with many players who barely understood the rules or were drunk. ZBTHorton noted that poor players in the past played passively but entered many pots, making it easier to win against them.

One user mentioned that they played LHE $60/$120 from 2002 to 2010 and had a comfortable life with minimal stress. Another user suggested that buying Bitcoin with winnings would have been a better investment than playing poker. A user mentioned that they had 10,000 BTC at the peak, which they were eager to cash out in 2011. A user recalled that even strong players from the past would be considered fish by today's standards.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
