Phil Galfond Announces High-Stakes Poker Matches with Big Names

Phil Galfond has announced an ambitious series of high-stakes poker matches, with some of the biggest names in the game. One of the most anticipated matches is against the mysterious VeniVidi, where Galfond is putting up $200k against VeniVidi's $100k. The matches will be streamed on Twitch, with sessions lasting at least four hours per day, five days a week.

Galfond has agreed on side bets with most of his opponents, including penalties for not showing up at the scheduled time. He expects the match with VeniVidi to take around five or six weeks to complete 25,000 hands. The matches will feature live commentary, but the cards will remain hidden from the viewers.

One of the most intriguing aspects of these matches is the stop-loss condition in Galfond's game with Bill Perkins. The game ends if one of them loses 20 buy-ins. Galfond will stream his matches with Bill Perkins and Jungleman separately, with each side streaming their own perspective.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
