Pads and Elliot Row on Professional Approach to MTTs: Key Insights

Poker professionals Pads and Elliot Row recently discussed the importance of a professional approach to Multi-Table Tournaments (MTTs).

Pads mentioned that he works on his game five days a week and takes one day to play and one day to rest when there are no series. He advises against trying to learn new things during series, as it can be detrimental. Instead, he focuses on rest, recovery, and maintaining a clear mind.

Elliot Row compares poker series to the Olympics, where athletes perform at their best and analyze their mistakes afterward. He emphasizes that extra sleep can provide more Expected Value (EV) than analyzing a single spot. Pads and his friend €urop€an write down their overall feelings and obvious mistakes after sessions and review them before the next session, a practice they have found very helpful.

Elliot Row also shared his experience with hypnotherapy, noting that students who have an emotional response to a game situation often see significant psychological improvements after just one session. Pads advises not to give too much importance to big series and to enjoy the game regardless of the outcomes. He believes that success in poker is determined by longevity, which requires a love for the game, both wins and losses.

Elliot Row suggests viewing poker as a long-term journey rather than focusing on individual tournaments. He advises players to consider how one buy-in will affect their graph over 10 years, reducing the pressure of each individual tournament. Pads notes that fear in final tables is often due to the perception of others rather than the impact on the session's result. Elliot Row and Pads discuss how players who transition from amateurs to professionals often face tilt issues due to financial pressure.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
