Online Poker Surge in USA Can't Match Live Gaming Demand
Online poker has gained significant traction in the USA since casinos closed due to the pandemic. The Stars Group, which operates PokerStars PA and PokerStars NJ, saw its revenues increase by nearly a third due to the rise in online poker popularity. Popular Google searches related to gambling in the USA include blackjack, roulette, and poker.
Despite the surge in online poker's popularity, it still cannot match the revenue generated by live gaming. Casinos attract thousands of players, both locals and tourists, to their gaming tables. The situation for online poker was exacerbated by the Black Friday incident, which led many US players to prefer live gaming.
Analyst Valerie Cross of Playpennsylvania stated that the popularity of online poker is unlikely to decline significantly even after casinos reopen. She cited the mobility of the online segment as a key factor. However, she acknowledged that online gaming cannot fully replicate the emotions experienced during live gaming.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
