Michael Addamo's Aggressive Poker Moves at $300K Vegas Tournament

Michael Addamo played in a $300,000 poker tournament at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on September 27, 2021. The event, held on the eve of the World Series of Poker, attracted many top players who were willing to pay the entry fee equivalent to the average cost of a house in Las Vegas.

In one notable hand, Michael Addamo raised 6 times with 87s when Jake Shindler raised with pocket queens. Despite having a weaker hand, Addamo's move was considered strategic by solvers, who often recommend such plays in deep-stack situations. Addamo's hand had the potential to form strong, well-disguised combinations.

On the river, Addamo made a check-raise with 87s against Jake Shindler. This move was part of a broader strategy to balance his range with both value bets and bluffs. Solvers often recommend check-raising with hands that block stronger combinations, such as full houses and straights. Addamo's check-raise was effective, as Shindler folded, unable to call the large bet.

In another hand, Addamo overbet with a pair of backdoors on the flop against Justin Bonomo. This aggressive move was supported by solvers, who often recommend overbetting in such situations to maintain pressure on the opponent. Bonomo, holding a top pair, decided to fold after Addamo's continued aggression on the turn.

Addamo also overbet with a lowjack against Nick Petrangelo. This move, while not typically recommended by solvers, had a low expected value regret. Petrangelo, holding a gutshoot, decided to call, but ultimately folded after the turn when Addamo's aggression continued.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
