Michigan Gaming Control Board Welcomes New Chair in 2026

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) is set to welcome a new Chair, Jim Townsend, on August 1, 2026. This appointment was confirmed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and announced on the regulator’s official website.

Townsend will replace the current Chair, Jim Ananich, who will be resigning at the end of the month. The new Chair will join the Board alongside members Joni M. Thrower Davis, Mark Evenson, DeidreA. Lambert-Bounds, and Andrew T. Palms.

The MGCB has been actively working against illegal operators and fighting against the prediction market sector. The regulator has recently cut ties with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) due to its decision to admit Kalshi, a prediction market platform, as a member. The MGCB has taken a dim view of prediction market platforms, arguing that they flout state gaming laws.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
