Mark Zuckerberg Envisions Poker's Future in Virtual Reality
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, recently discussed his vision for the future of poker in virtual reality during an interview with Joe Rogan. Zuckerberg's dream is to help people connect better in the modern world, a goal he initially pursued through Facebook and now aims to achieve through advanced technology.
In 2014, Facebook acquired Oculus for $2 billion, a move that positioned the company at the forefront of virtual reality technology. Eight years later, the newly rebranded Meta Quest technology is set to enhance communication over distance and bring augmented reality to life, where the digital world is seamlessly integrated into the real world.
Zuckerberg envisions using this technology to bring an entire poker game into the home, allowing participants to engage in a virtual poker experience without being physically present. Virtual cards will be dealt, and futuristic AR glasses will handle the rest, transforming the poker industry. This technology is not far from becoming a reality and could significantly impact how poker is played. In the past, 888poker offered webcam tables, but the feature did not gain traction, highlighting the divide between live and online poker players. However, with the advent of advanced VR technology, online players might reconsider their preference for anonymity, opting instead for a more immersive and interactive experience.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
