From Reluctant Player to MTT King: The Story of Lena900

Finnish poker professional Mikka "Chuck Bass" Anttonen shared a story about a Swedish player who initially disliked MTTs. The encounter took place in Barcelona in September 2010 during a live tournament with a buy-in of 550€. The Swedish player, known as Lena900, won his first live event at the European Masters of Poker II in a NLH tournament with a buy-in of 550€, earning 15,900€.

Lena900's real name is Niklas Astedt. Before this tournament, Lena900 had minimal experience in MTTs, focusing mainly on cash games. However, the encounter with Anttonen and the subsequent win sparked a change in his poker career. Lena900 is the most profitable MTT player in online poker history, with total winnings of $19,832,964.

Anttonen recounted how Lena900, despite initially disliking MTTs, eventually became one of the top MTT players in the world. The story highlights how a single pivotal moment can transform a player's trajectory in the poker world.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
