Landon Tice Withdraws from Bill Perkins Challenge Match, Pays $376,400

Poker player Landon Tice has withdrawn from a challenge match against Bill Perkins. The match, which was set to consist of 20,000 hands at a $200/400 limit with a $200,000 side bet, ended after just 5,000 hands. At that point, Tice had a profit of $64,000. However, to win the challenge, Tice needed to maintain a winrate of 9 bb/100, which he was not on track to achieve. His winrate for the first 25% of the match was 3.25 bb/100, far below the required rate.

Tice's withdrawal from the match means he will have to pay Perkins $376,400. This includes the $200,000 side bet plus an additional $176,400 due to the 9 bb/100 advantage Perkins had in the match.

In a series of tweets, Tice reflected on his decision to withdraw, acknowledging that he had made mistakes and that he could have prepared more thoroughly for the match. He also expressed gratitude for the experience, stating that it had taught him valuable lessons about his game and his approach to poker.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
