Kentucky Considers Raising Sports Betting Age to 21 and Banning College Prop Bets

Legislators in Kentucky are considering a significant change to sports betting laws. The proposed bill aims to raise the sports betting age from 18 to 21 and ban prop bets on Kentucky college athletics. This legislation, HB904, has already passed the House with a vote of 79-15 and is now heading to the Senate for further consideration.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Michael Meredith (R), includes several key provisions. It allows horse tracks to offer fixed odds betting in addition to traditional pari-mutuel wagering. Additionally, the bill licenses and regulates fantasy sports operators. However, it bars sportsbook, fantasy sports, and horse track operators from engaging in the prediction market business.

The push for these changes comes in the wake of several NCAA betting scandals. Association officials have pleaded for lawmakers to ban prop bets on college sports. The bill's passage in the House marks a significant step towards potentially stricter regulations in Kentucky's sports betting industry.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
