Jason Koon Reveals Poker Career Insights and Personal Favorites
Jason Koon, a prominent figure in the poker world, recently shared insights into his career, strategies, and personal life. Reflecting on his early days, Koon recalls a time when he played NL $200/$400 in Bobby's room and felt emotional about the stakes, remembering his stepfather's hard work.
Koon's daily routine during high-stakes tournaments is meticulous. He sleeps 8-10 hours a day and avoids carbohydrates during game time, finding that this regimen works best for him. His advice on bankroll management is clear: if your bankroll is small, you can afford to lose it, but be conservative when it grows large.
Influenced by Ben86 [Tolleren], with whom he lived and learned a lot, Koon's favorite musicians include Tom Petty, Eagles, Led Zeppelin, RHCP, and Pearl Jam. He enjoys reading non-fiction, recently finishing "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson. His favorite alcoholic beverage is beer, particularly pale ales. Koon prefers training with heavy weights and sometimes adds cardio, combining it with sauna sessions and outdoor activities. He finds that after 10 hours of play, he no longer enjoys the game and prefers PLO among Omaha, Hold'em, and Short Deck.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
