Harvey Mathews Wins First WSOP Bracelet in Thrilling Freezeout Tournament
Harvey Mathews, an American poker player, won his first WSOP bracelet in a freezeout tournament with a prize pool of $1,922,400. The event, a 3,000$ No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout, saw Mathews emerge victorious among 720 players.
Mathews' victory earned him $371,910, the largest prize of his career. The runner-up was Gabriel Andrade, who earned $229,840. Michael Gati, a Belgian poker player, finished third, earning $164,080. The final table consisted of players from the USA, with the exception of Michael Gati from Belgium.
The final hand of the event was intense. Mathews raised with K♥-10♦, and Andrade responded with an all-in three-bet holding A♠-9♣. The board ran 8♠-8♥-5♦-2♥-K♠, giving Mathews a pair of kings and securing his championship. A total of 108 players made it into the money, with the minimum payout being $4,840.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
